Well it started off a little rocky. First I realized we didn't have an egg to make the muffins I requested for breakfast in bed. No big deal, we'll go to Brown Sugar Kitchen, the great new breakfast joint we'd just heard of on Check Please! Nope, it was pouring down rain and there was a line out the door. Not my idea of fun. We were headed to the SF Zoo, rain or shine apparently. We stopped at the Ferry Building for a bite and to kill time (the zoo didn't open for an hour), surprise, surprise nothing at the Ferry Building was open yet either. But Frog Hollow Farm was at it early, serving before opening time, and boy was that a find! Amazing Scuffins (scone batter in a muffin shape) with apricot "conserve" in the middle, and steel-cut oatmeal with more fruit conserve and nuts with a perfect decaf Americano. Yummy!
And we headed out just as the French and Japanese tour buses arrive! Ahhh and then the zoo. How wonderful. As we drove West the sky opened and the sun came out, a rare sight indeed!
We of course frequent the Oakland zoo and love it. But Leo has developed a real affinity for gorillas, big and small. We have known for awhile there was a baby gorilla at the SF Zoo (born actually the same year as Leo 2008)and have wanted to take Leo but the timing has been tough. It was definitely worth the trip. Really? Is there anything cuter than a baby gorilla?
And the silverback gave us quite a show with his regal mannerism.
Of course petting the goats remain a favorite.
Thank you Mark for a perfect Mother's Day and a perfect little boy!
